Cadet: All pilots start off at this rank. Must have at least 70 hours flight time before moving on to the next rank. Must take a test every three months to prove  they are up to QAVA standards. Aircraft: Airbus a319

 

Second Officer: Second rank that a pilot obtains. Must have at least 140 hours flight time before moving on to the next rank. Must take a test every three months to prove they are up to QAVA standards. Aircraft: Boeing 787-8

 

First Officer: Third rank that a pilot obtains. Must have at least 210 hours flight time before moving on to the next rank. Must take a test every three months to prove  they are up to QAVA standards. Aircraft: Airbus a340-600

 

Senior First Officer: Fourth rank that a pilot obtains. Must have at least 280 hours flight time and 2 hours training time in aircraft they will be flying next. Must take a test every two months to prove they are up to QAVA standards. Aircraft: Boeing 777-200LR

 

Captain: Fifth rank that a pilot obtains. Must have at least 350 hours flight time and 3 hours training in aircraft they will be flying next. Must take a test every month to prove they are up to QAVA standards. Aircraft: Boeing 777-300ER

 

Senior Captain: Sixth and final rank a normal pilot may obtain. Must have passed written test and given permission to become Senior Captain, and must have at least 420 flight hours. Must fly at least 6 times a month. Must take a test every month to prove  they are up to QAVA standards. Aircraft: Airbus a380-800

 

Executive Captain: Pilots specially chosen by VA staff. Must fly at least 10 times a month, be Grade 4, and have 490 flight hours+. Aircraft: Amiri Flight Boeing 747-8

Cargo Pilot: Special rank that may be available after the "Captain" rank is achieved. Pilots wanting to be a cargo pilot must pass the test and be approved by staff. Aircraft: Boeing 777-200F

 

NOTE: Aircraft names in bold signify the new aircraft obtained with each rank. Rank names that are italicized are special ranks that may not be achieved without approval and/or recommendation from a staff member.
